Abstract: To achieve sensorless control of brushless DC motors(BLDCM),rotor position is extracted from back-EMF. Traditional mechanical position sensor was replaced and this will effectively open the way for full penetration of this motor drive into high-cost, high reliability, and large volume applications. A review of the literature addressing BLDCM sensorless control based on back-EMF was provided. The advantages and disadvantages of different sensorless methods were discussed in details.
